Nathaniel Maloney:

Nature Element in 2d Composition

Posted on February 20, 2012 with 0 comments
As a class we were asked to photograph the human element for our collage's that we have worked on.  Since I commute to college and also have a part time job, it was too difficult for me to join a group to do a photo shoot for the human element.  I asked the professor if it were possible if I could do something with nature as a nature element kind of like the artist Andy Goldsworthy does.
I went to a nearby park called "Twinsburg Ledges" and was really happy I did because I was even able to find some icicles to use hanging from the ledges!  It fit well with the black and white collage showing the difference in contrast, because I took the icicles and arranged them on a stone with moss grown on it.  It was not only too distinct different tones, but also representing two distinct differences of what we see in seasons.
Here are the photographs and collages in order.

I finished my first sculpture and was pleased with the result.  Although there were some things I would do different next time, I appreciate all that went into it.

Still life redo

The balloon still life I chose to redo because we needed to magnify the items and not actually draw them from scale.  I finished this one just now tonight and need to get some sleep for work tomorrow...

Drawing 2 class

I spent about 4 1/2 hours working on this last night and finished it up tonight.  It's kind of strange how sometimes when you're working on a piece, and you are close to be finished...you kind of wish you weren't.  It is an odd feeling of satisfaction from seeing the conclusion, yet wishing that you could stay on the summit and feel the emotion of overlooking a great landscape.  Not ever wanting to venture back down.

I've finished made significant progress on the sculpture and attached it to a base I made.  Here are some photographs!
